Episode 21: The Devil and Sam Oliver

Jerad and Casey return to discuss the amazing Season Two finale of Reaper.
With a little help, Sam is able to read the scroll from Hell -- which contains the secret he needs to get out of his deal with the Devil.
Sam finds himself at the crossroads, a coin's flip away from freedom, where someone close to him makes the ultimate sacrifice for his soul.
The guys charge forward in the fight for syndication and share their likes and dislikes of the episode that ends the latest chapter in the story of The Devil and Sam Oliver.

Your podcast did the finale justice. But you ought not to be so mad that the Devil won. Come on, he and Sam are BFFs for all time!
I LOVED the finale, it confirmed that there was divine intervention in Sam’s life. But it still left the question as to WHY, and what the bigger plan really is. And that’s the problem.

As I send this email, it hasn’t been confirmed whether or not ABC has succeeded. Others are optimistic, but Tyler Labine’s facebook update was heartbreaking. If a decision comes before your next podcast, I might be compelled to comment again. Otherwise I’ll leave room here for all the other messages that I’m SURE will be in your vessel box.

Hey the Devil Went Down to Georgia, good call. Can't quite see Sam or Andi fiddling though.

Sigh. I hope we get the news soon! since I want more Reaper so there can be more Reapercasts.

I've talked with other people who had a feeling of disappointment (and more!) about the finale, not in and of itself, but because, as you two said, the wrap up was unsatisfying. Myself, I liked it. Sure, I would have liked to see them address Sam's Dad, Sam's Mom, is the Devil really his dad?, what about the Contract?, and so many other unanswered questions.

But, it ended on an typical Reaper up-and-down note: angels and light, except Andi's soul is damned.

Just got to stay tuned for Season Three.

Okay I'm not saying goodbye since I know you'll do a show for the DVDs. (No flimsy paper!). So I'll say thanks for covering the episodes so well, and I'll look forward to the next reapercast in a few weeks. Ta-ta!

Hey guys! It's your old pal Jeremy here with a special message for you! Great job with the past few Reapercasts...you really kept me looking forward to each Reaper and its corresponding Reapercast!

Now...my thoughts on season 2. I hate to say this, but I was kinda disappointed by season 2 of Reaper. I think season 1 was always exciting, with new twists and turns in every episode, but they seem to have run out of steam in season 2. They abandoned storylines from season one to start new storylines, which they eventually abandoned! I think this might be a result of their bad treatment by the CW, and they just made these 13 episodes, pretty much expecting to fail. The ending of the final episode was kind of disappointing, but at least it was an ending point. They didn't leave us with some major cliffhanger. I mean, we care about what will happen to Sam and Andi's souls, but we are left with a glimmer of hope that Steve will help them out. Now, if we are lucky and get that third season we all want, I think the writers and producers are going to have to majorly step up the show to get it to be successful for the loyal fans as well as new audiences.

OK. That was kinda negative, so to brighten it up, here are three awesome things about season 2!
1. Nina! A funny character, with an interesting relationship with Ben and also being able to help Sam out with things about hell and demons and stuff.
2. Corpse Dad! Sam's relationship with his dad was taken to a whole new level, and he got to be very funny with physical gags and his loneliness.
3. The Reapercast! Having you guys reviewing each episode as it happens was great! It was great way to review episodes before watching, and I caught tons of little things in each episode that were references or important facts that I may have missed otherwise!

It’s me again… I’m sure you have a couple of criticisms prepared for the DVD and I’ll say now that I agree with you. Unless you diss the gag reel ‘cause the gag reel was hilarious.
It’s pretty much settled that Reaper is over. No more of that hilarious dialogue, no more of that intriguing, gradually developing storyline, and no more of the actors just enjoying their parts.
We all care about the characters and we want to see things move forward. And it’s painful to have it cut off like that.
We were just getting started.
There would have been merchandising, and a large devoted fanbase to make memories with. It would’ve been great. But now Reaper’s over before it really got to start.
But as much as the love lost pains me I’m still so grateful that the pilot got picked up in the first place.
And I will miss you… until the inevitable day years from now when I forget about you and you forget about me.
But for now I'll still be anxiously awaiting your next episode of Reapercast.
